Kubrick's
unequivocal sci-fi masterpiece is a heady, claustrophobic exploration
of deep space and the human psyche. Unforgettable images (the infamous
“flying bone” shot among many), remarkable special FX, and arguably
the most effective depiction of artificial intelligence committed to
film. Second best character next to HAL is the ominous black Monolith
- surprisingly unnerving for a non-descript, inanimate object.
Third act can be frustratingly cryptic but reveals itself with some
patience.

The Exorcist

Director William
Friedkin expertly balanced stirring family drama with uncompromised horror
in this genre classic, widely regarded as the “scariest movie ever made” and
rightfully so. Shocking to audiences when released 30 years ago and imitated
countless times since, it remains an extraordinary display of jarring
special effects, Oscar nominated performances, and immensely disturbing
imagery that has yet to be equaled. Sound design is some of best committed
to film.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Final film in Sergio Leone's "Man With No Name" trilogy has ambitious scope that
incorporates the best of the previous two movies into a masterpiece of its
genre and of film. Famous music score aids tremendously to tense gun shoot
outs and dramatic scenes. Climatic standoff is a cinematically perfect
convergence of pacing, music, and suspense.
